Absolute Classics Festival at BQA
This month, Dumfries and Galloway’s most prestigious venues will play host to a formidable guest list of internationally renowned classical musicians, as a part of the annual Absolute Classics music festival.
The 2017 Absolute Classics Festival takes place between 11th and 20th August, with performances taking place at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries and the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms luxury hotel in Thornhill.
We are delighted to be hosting two fantastic events here at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Arms, including the festival’s closing performance from classical superstar, Oxana Shevchenko.

Song Cycle Dinner with Nicky Spence – Sunday 13th August 6pm
Janacek: The Diary of One Who Disappeared
Dumfries born tenor, Nicky Spence, trained at the Guildhall School and went on to receive a nomination for the International Opera Award’s Young Singer of the Year in 2015 before becoming one of only ten artists to be included in the Times Breakthrough Award.
Nicky will be joined by mezzo soprano, Madeleine Shaw, and renowned accompanist, Simon Pepper on piano, for an evening designed to tantalise both your ears and your taste buds. The song cycle will be split into 5 sections, split between delicious courses showcasing the finest local produce freshly prepared by our expert chefs.

Piano Recital with Oxana Shevchenko – Sunday 20th August 3.30pm
Closing the festival in spectacular style, we will be hosting award-winning pianist, Oxana Shevchenko to the BQA Hotel.
Internationally renowned both as a soloist and a chamber musician, Oxana took first prize at the Scottish International Piano Competition in 2010 before making her recording debut with Delphian Records in 2011.
Described as ‘frankly, gobsmacking’ by The Herald, we are delighted to welcome Oxana to our luxury hotel in Scotland for an evening of world-class musicianship.
