The 7stanes are not simply mountain bike trails. They are indeed more than that. 7stanes translating to 7 ‘stones’ as stane is the Scots word for stone, relates to the 7 stone sculptures at each of the locations. Each stone tells a different the story of a different myth or legend. Who said bike rides weren’t educational?
The locations of the trails are Glentrool, Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie, Mabie, Ae, Glentress and Newcastleton. These trails are not exclusively for the more experienced riders as the trails all differ in difficulty, allowing families to take part alongside the adrenaline junkies. For more information on the different routes you can follow and the grading levels, visit their website http://scotland.forestry.gov.uk/activities/mountain-biking/7stanes.
