Sunday 2nd July – Let’s Get Sporty Super Sunday Family Fun Day Event
This year Let’s Get Sporty will be hosting their free family fun day event at the Crichton Estate in Dumfries. Come along and get involved with a host of attractions on offer – from ‘It’s a Knockout!’ to street dancing and martial arts. Completely free to attend, the event goes on from 11 am right through to 5 pm with catering on site!
Sunday 16th July – Folksy Theatre Production of Twelfth Night at Threave Gardens
Why not bring along a picnic to this summertime open-air production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night? With their signature touch of live music and colourful characters, the Folksy Theatre ensemble is sure to delight and entertain with their rendition of this classic tale of love, madness and mistaken identity.
Sunday 16th July – Fred MacCaulay Live Stand Up Show at The Theatre Royal Dumfries
Legendary Scottish funnyman Fred MacCaulay brings his award-winning blend of satirical political comedy and ruthless pop-culture commentary to The Theatre Royal Dumfries, in his latest stand-up show for 2017. From the impending threat of Brexit to the devastating blow dealt by Trump upon Scottish golfers – this night promises to educate and inform as much as it entertains.
Sunday 23rd July – Fun Dog Show at Closeburn Playing Fields in Dumfries
Are you bringing your dog on holiday with you this year? Our dog-friendly hotel rooms are just the ticket for families with a four-legged member, simply let us know when making your booking. Then set aside a day just for them, by joining the Closeburn Ringcraft Show Dog Training Club for a fun packed day of classes from pedigree judging to handler fancy dress. All dogs are welcome! 26th July – Stranraer Agricultural Show
One of Dumfries and Galloway’s most popular annual events, this hybrid agricultural show combines traditional livestock classes and the best of local agricultural products and rural crafts with all the live entertainment and trade stalls you could wish for in a truly family friendly fun day out.
29th-30th July – Spectacular Jousting at Caerlaverock Castle
Walk among knights and noblemen as hoards descend on this medieval encampment for the annual jousting tournament held at Caerlaverock Castle. Don’t miss this thrilling day of live action battles on horseback, as contenders compete for the revered championship crown.
Friday 28th July – Langholm Common Riding
This historic riding of the commons involves a week of festive celebrations in Langholm finishing with the ceremonial mounted procession of horses on Friday 28th followed by an evening of open air dancing. A tradition spanning over two hundred and forty years when the Burgesses were required to actively maintain boundaries to keep their land, this historic event has become a huge draw for equestrians and a reason for celebration in the community.
