Will’s Word from the BQA Restaurant Dumfries
It’s coming up to that time again when we need to change our menus around in The BQA Hotel Restaurant Dumfries. Constantly keeping our dishes up to date and in line with the freshest products as they move in and out of season enables us to provide our customers with fantastic tasting food. The menus are due to undergo some changes to incorporate the foods that will be at their freshest as we move through August and into the Autumn period.
It’s curtains for you…
At the BQA Hotel Restaurant Dumfries we want to keep you informed as to why we constantly change our menus around. As well as letting you know which foods are muscling their way to the front of the queue at this time of year, we thought we’d mention the ingredients that are sadly on their way out.
Asparagus is unfortunately past its best at this time of year. With the freshness of asparagus quickly decreasing once it has been picked, the sooner it is eaten the better it will taste. The Roast Chicken Breast will now be served with a different garnish as asparagus was previously a key component of this dish. Wonder what it will look like now….
Gooseberry and Elderflowers
Both gooseberries and elderflowers come to the end of their season as we wave goodbye to July and move into August. Towards the end of the season Gooseberries are sweet enough to be eaten raw (as opposed to the tart full bodied flavour at the beginning) which is why we snapped up the opportunity to include Gooseberry and Elderflower Baked Alaska onto our menus.
Out with the old and in with the new…
So that was just a couple of things we have taken out of our menu. However, this now means there are spots to be filled. Spots to be filled by fresh and tasty new ingredients.
Apples and Pears
Apples and pears work well together as a flavour combination and so the BQA Hotel Restaurant Dumfries can now say hello to Apple and Pear Crumble! August is the perfect time for both of these fruits which gives us the perfect excuse to include this delicious crumble into the menu. Who doesn’t love crumble?
All things Game
Seasonality is extremely important when putting together dishes for menus. The BQA Hotel restaurant Dumfries always endeavours to source products as locally as possible. The closer the locations our products are sourced from means they’re as fresh as we can get them…our back garden if we could help it! Moving into August means one thing…all things game. This time of years makes way for dishes centred around the likes of rabbit, venison and wood pigeon to name but a few.
Being able to change the menus in terms of seasonality keeps an air of excitement around the restaurant. Old classics will always come and go, but there will always be place for new favourites. Have a look at the menu in full here.
